Oh, I completely get it. I have PTSD from many assaults over the years (purely physical, not sexual), and part of what I struggle with is always blaming myself for not at least TRYING to fight back, for being too much of a wuss to deck someone when I had the chance. That doesn't mean when someone gets attacked, I

The "I-heart-rape" button sets women up for a double bind. If you don't take it seriously, then you're at fault if you're assaulted. But if you do take it seriously, men can then accuse you of being a shrill harpy who doesn't have a sense of humor. You see it every time a woman objects to a rape joke.

Calling viewpoints that are offensive and wrong merely "unpopular" ought to be one too.

But she voices an opinion that is unpopular

Chrissie Hynde said something extremely unpopular

In all seriousness though, A.V. Club comments are actually full of more rational people that I have interacted with on the internet.

I read the novel and thought it was an okay-ish, not great, King doorstopper. I started watching the first season out of curiosity, thinking it was going to be a miniseries that more or less followed the novel, but as soon as they announced a second season, that told me that it was not merely just going to be a

I've always asked, if you get a blowjob from a Muppet, is it really a blowjob, or just a handjob?

I have never seen him make a positive contribution to any thread as of yet.

I'm not saying women SHOULD have to expect to have to learn to defend themselves against rape, or that it's the woman's RESPONSIBILITY to defend herself - but I will say, I think it might not be a bad thing for society if it was a national law that women can attend all krav maga and other self-defense classes

Her attitude is repulsive, but situationally, I'm maybe willing to rationalize it as her blaming herself (rather than, rightfully, her attacker) for her own sexual abuse, and so projecting her own self-blame onto other rape victims. It doesn't make it right, but I maybe won't demonize her as much as some other people

I'm still torn on whether I think Carcetti was basically a good, well-meaning liberal politician who could only do so much, or just as scummy as everyone else on that show. It doesn't help that I got into the Wire after being into GoT, so I can't NOT see him as Littlefinger.

Maybe she does, but I don't think that would really change any of that, though.

No, I got that, and I wasn't confusing that or necessarily defending pushing stuff on your kids that they aren't interested in. But, there's a reason tweens aren't the arbiter of all that is cool or classic in the world.

Also, don't think you've seen the last of me. I'm going to remember your name in future threads, with extreme prejudice.

I GOT THE LAST WORD!

If you say someone's wrong, you have to say why. That's how it works. You don't just get to say "you're wrong". You have the right to any opinion you can defend. If you won't defend it, you give up.

Once again, bare assertions, name-calling, and no actual counterarguments. I find it very telling how people who argue your position on language can never sufficiently defend it when pressed. Concession accepted.

I actually AM a socialist and a Marxist, and I get real angry when people call Democrats those things, because I know they fall far short of being them, and think if they actually WERE socialists and Marxists, as these people accuse them of being, we'd be a lot better off. If Obama was a socialist, I'd love that! But

Yeah seriously, where the fuck is this guy talking about where $1000/month is expensive? I have a fuck-all dead end job, my apartment is $920 and it's a mouse-ridden shithole in the industrial doldrums.
