1. Relevant theme (It essentially boils down to "I'm getting to old for this shit," which is a little undercut by the existence of four more original cast sequels to come, but that's not this movie's fault. It makes sense, and it's handled well.)

Um…yeah. That one can wait a long time, then, I guess.

Didn't the writer of that episode get fired immediately after it aired?

"Code of Honor" is a racist stain on Star Trek. The rest of Season 1 is merely bad, but that episode is an embarrassment that needs to be expunged from history.

That's a dilemma I'm struggling with. I want to show her "All Good Things…" but no. There is NO WAY I'm showing her "Encounter at Farpoint".

I'm with you here. Taste might be subjective, but at some point, we have to look at overwhelming consensus, draw a line and say "your opinion is just wrong". Roger Ebert himself once said as much.

Never watch any Star Trek movie after The Undiscovered Country. Yes, I said it.

I love The Motion Picture. I've made this rant many times on here but hell, I'll make it again. Yes, it's slow. Yes, it's basically special effects porn. But, those special effects made in 1979 still look amazing TODAY. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who grew up with TOS and hadn't seen any Trek for 10 years,

I dislike all the TNG movies. I think "All Good Things…" was a perfect finale, and they should have left well enough alone. I'll buy that First Contact works as a generic action movie, but not as a Star Trek movie, and so I'm not a big fan of that either. Also, the Borg Queen was beyond stupid.

Actually, I would argue that he should have been dismissed as a cheater in either scenario (where did it say in the rules that reprogramming the simulation was kosher?), but Abrams' version was SO blatant it's just insulting to watch. Fuck everything about those movies.

I've been feeding her a steady diet of TNG, but ONLY the good ones. I am not showing her any Season 1, not no way, not no how. That will kill a relationship, I think.

How timely. I just showed this movie to my girlfriend last night with "Space Seed" preceding. I've been steadily making a Trekkie and Whovian out of her. I guess I'm obligated to show her Search for Spock next.

Bunghole Liquors. Right on the line of Peabody and Salem. I drive by it often on the way to some friends' places. Never actually been in the Bunghole, though.

I see your argument there, but I would disagree and say it's overly pedantic. I realize "fourth wall" originally referred to the "wall" between the proscenium arch of a stage and the audience, but I think the definition can safely be expanded to mean the wall between fiction and reality in general, since it is

I pretty much memorized all of Spaceballs as a kid, to the point I nearly wore out the VHS tape. Actually, fun fact, I had already known Spaceballs inside and out before I EVER saw Star Wars. Basically, I thought Spaceballs WAS Star Wars - I knew it was funny, but kind of took it seriously at that age, if that makes

You know, I love Spaceballs, and Mel Brooks in general, but I will say, I kind of tire of fourth-wall breaking these days. I realize it's a trope that's as old as the hills, but I will say that, in this day and age, it seems to be used in the way described in the last paragraph of the article, as more of a cheap gag

Never seen it, never watched much SNL, but I could believe it. It's not as if SNL hasn't had a troubled history with race relations.

I've always said, if I had access to a time machine, instead of killing Hitler, I'd try to sell Barbara Bush on the merits of birth control.

You know, I always found the idea of Vader's "redemption" at the end of ROTJ to be questionable. I mean, here is someone who murdered billions, but he suddenly turned good because he saved his own son from dying. If Osama Bin Laden had decided to intervene to stop his son from being tortured and killed, would we

The bar trivia name that I'm most proud of having come up with in my life is "Oedipus and the Motherfuckers".
