Many of the contestants on game shows were wannabe actors. There's a few clips of people who were later legit famous on shows like "The Dating Game". But if you see those shows, many of the contestants were "models" and other jobs meaning "aspiring actor". I suppose it would be an easy way to get your face on TV, show…

I watched it in my early teens, I guess. That was in an era when many people didn't have cable or VCRs, so there was plenty of prime time drivel aimed at kids who didn't know better.
