TV stations have been compressing older shows for decades to sell more ad time. Sometimes they do it by slightly speeding up the playback, sometimes through cuts. Knowing MeTV, it's probably whatever is the cheapest method.

I think Mary Tyler Moore and The Bob Newhart Show hold up pretty well. They were funny enough to me when I watched them with my parents as a young kid (thanks to some great performances), but (like The Dick Van Dyke Show) they were written for adults.
