Hmm, how did David Brin make out from Kevin Costner's "The Postman"?

Interestingly, in the comedian David Mitchell's recent memoir, he says he gets mistaken for the novelist fairly often. Or people think they are one and the same person, as other British comedians such as Stephen Fry *are* novelists as well.

Jerry Lewis attempted doing exactly the same thing as "Life is Beautiful" decades ago (an "uplifting" movie set in a concentration camp called "The Day the Clown Cried") and everyone was so aghast at the idea that it was never released. Yes, knowing Lewis it probably wasn't as polished as "Life is Beautiful", but the

I disagree as well. Remember the somewhat condescending (although valid, in my opinion) line Obama said in the first campaign that caused him so much flack? About people down on their luck clinging to guns and religion and xenophobia? That's how D-Fens is portrayed — as somebody who can't really see the real causes

Yeah. The whole point of the movie is that you are supposed to *pity* D-Fens, not see him as a hero or anything.

Yes. My favorite type of documentary is the "Jesus Camp" type where the targets just say one outrageous thing after another to the camera thinking that what they are saying is perfectly reasonable.

American Graffiti was set in 1962, not the 1950s, LoveWaffle. Although many people claim the 1960s didn't really become the 1960s until JFK got shot.

It doesn't. Although personally I prefer Barcelona, also with Chris Eigeman (who I wish was in more movies)

Probably you haven't read the mediocre novels behind many great films. "Jaws" and "The Godfather" are clearly better films than their base material. Arguably "The Shining" as well, but I know there are rabid King fans that actually prefer the mini-series that more closely follows the book.

Thanks for bringing up Dark City. I never got why The Matrix was seen as so influential when it was just a rehash of Dark City with some gunfights added - they even used some of the Dark City sets!
