And the reason Battleship did okay overseas but not here was because people in Thailand don't know the game so they didn't have that first "They made a movie out of THAT? WTF?" reaction.  Maybe the movie is decently entertaining, maybe it's not, but you just can't get around the knee jerk "This is stupid" first

Here here.  I think one of the reasons that English comedies, at their best (ie: Fawlty Towers, Ab Fab, Black Books, Father Ted, etc.) are generally better than American ones even at their best is because they run for 6 to 13 episodes a series (season.)  British TV doesn't have time for the amount of crap that makes
