Asteroids
Asteroids — the coin-op game by Atari — is a masterpiece of design. The basic game mechanics and player interface are borrowed from Space War, but are refined to a high level here. Everything feels just right, from the smooth and responsive connection to the onscreen ship, to the shape and placement of the

@teh dude: You might have had a CAV edition of Blade Runner, which would have been like 29 or 30 minutes per side, over 4 sides. If it was a Criterion set with supplemental stuff (stills, storyboards, etc.), that would have limited the placement of the side breaks even more.

@teh dude: Laserdiscs held up to 60 minutes per side. For movies with a running time of just under 120 minutes (like Blade Runner), this meant there was not much choice where to end the first side. They could have spread the film over three sides, but that would have been more expensive and cumbersome.

I still like 'em, but haven't really felt the need to go back to their music lately. I'd say More Adventurous was their best. Blacklight was a little too slick for my tastes. The song "Acid Tongue" is fantastic, but the rest of that album… meh. It's professional but boring to me. Lewis was a more interesting singer

Before I went to bed the night before — actually about 1:30 am on 9/11 — last thing I remember was watching Afroman perform "Because I Got High" on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. (I can't remember if I myself was high that night, but there's a good chance I was.)

I live in Louisville, and I like it.

I give this Sweary post a B+. I'm guessing the triple exclamation points will not become a mainstay, but I admire the willingness to experiment. Also, nice cunt solo. Well done.

Reasonable Discussions
Wow, these are some of the most reasonable discussions I've seen on this site in quite some time. I am impressed.

I like this motherfucking gimmick.

I like the Lonely Island. No qualifications or conditions on it; I simply like them.

Hey, a King Missile thread! I like King Missile. I saw them play live once in the early '90s. Only about a hundred people showed up, but it was still a cool show. I vaguely recall John S. Hall using a plastic penis prop for that one song. They played all their college radio hits, and closed the show with "Martin

Well said, Leaping Lanny. Well said.

Preparation Heche, I like you too.

I like this.
I like this article. The issues discussed here are things that have been on my mind for years, and it's nice to see them explored in this format by the AV Club.

I like this.
I liked Jim's Journal. It ran in my college newspaper circa 1991, and it was far and away the highlight of that publication. As a bright-but-aimless college freshman, I identified with its non-plots and the vaguely depressive quality of its hero.

This is sublimely stupid. I like it.

I like all the gimmick posters. They're a big reason why I bother reading these comments. I like them so much, I got my own gimmick.

Damn, look at HTH with the lexicographal power slam. Props out.

Going back to the Watterson quote, I think it accompanied a gloriously absurd Spaceman Spiff adventure, or something along those lines. When Watterson called comics "incredibly stupid," he was suggesting that this stupidity was central to their appeal and their power. I don't think he meant it as a slam.

I got this offer too. I didn't do the math, but 3% of approximately 1/3 of my monthly bill seemed like not enough to waste time thinking about.
