Personally, while I would agree that Nolan's Batman is a little dark (okay, esp. Dark Knight), more than anything what he did was take the character seriously. That's what Superman needs.

To me, Seth seemed like a classic little big man. Feels inferior because of his height, so he's super-aggressive and competitive and gets very defensive. Seems like a pretty good chef, though. Oh, sorry… PASTRY chef. I expect he'll make the final at least.
