I want so badly for everyone to be in on the joke, that the things that turn humans on are silly and random and meaningless…and that's what makes them all the more important. When Farrar stands up while straddling the pony it's so goofy, but he's so damned proud of his sweat, hairy legs, and hat, and hair - I just

When Mr. Dean arrives gloriously astride his little white pony, I don't know whether to giggle or gasp. Giggle usually wins. https://lunarcamelco.files…. . That doesn't make me like the movie any less.

Allman was one of the whiskey-voiced blues men I wanted to sing like (Rod Stewart and Bob Seger being two of the others). It set me back needlessly - I should have been shooting for Dion, but what guy didn't want to sound like Greg on "It's Not My Cross to Bear" or "Whipping Post"?

I heard Jackson Browne say on Sirius that Allman sang it the original but Browne was too insecure to sing it that way when he was young. Now Browne sings the Allman version.

On Monday night I was surprised to see an old Cher TV show. She and Allman were dressed in matching suits, doing a credible version of "Don't Mess Up a Good Thing." She gave a long friendly intro. Yup, they were married a few weeks later:

But I would also add the charm and craft of smaller buildings standing up to the glass tower erected around them. Life is lived in different scales.

I, too, do the "are they still with us?" math. It's sad that so many of the adults I admired when I was a child are gone.

I think maybe he's talking about the Mt. Rushmore stuff. The train in the tunnel is the best.

Great point re: Riefenstahl. I love how every culture has different heroic archetypes, and they indicate different values in the nation. Americans love the idea of the loner on the open land, fending for and protecting him- (not really her-) self (cowboy). My Dutch family loves the sea - groups of men on ships

And everything should be landscape, not portrait orientation.

There are not enough movies made recording the world as it is. Just shoot video of what's around you, today, because it will quickly change, and then it will be gone. One of these days my time management skills will be good enough that I can share some of the stuff I have.

I saw Greed but only remember the final scenes in the desert, which are striking. I'm a huge fan of Le Joli Mai, an earlier film by Chris Marker, so A Grin Without a Cat is one I would lean to.

He should be.

Especially since most late-game athleticism favors strong male players. There's now a list of 5-time challenge winners, and I'm sure all are men. What women dominated in such a way?

There was one glaring example of bad game play which throws a shadow on this season. "Always break up the power couple" is Survivor 101. That Brad and Troyzan made it to the end is Survivor malpractice.

The 80s were Al Franken's decade. Anytime I faced a dilemma, I wondered, "What would he, Al Franken, do?"

I feel guilty for not adding this in a week ago… Duane Allman's lead on "Loan Me a Dime" by Boz Scaggs. Set aside 15 minutes and listen.

"I'm a Hog for You" by the Coasters
