I think it's definitely funny at points, but can't see Lo's coercion into living with him as anything other than a downer. She has no other alternatives! To me, she's one of those insecure pre-teenagers that really gets forced into an identity she thought she would be comfortable with, and by the time she grasps the

Watched Michael Clayton, the Gilroy flick with Clooney, which I'm surprised doesn't get more recognition, though I guess the middle-brow-y subject matter might've hampered its respectability. In retrospect a basically obvious movie, but very well-made, anchored by at least three to four great scenes, with no obvious

The Apartment is just fantastic. Probably my favorite Wilder (not to imply that it's all downhill from there), although Double Indemnity might be the greater achievement in retrospect. Some Like it Hot might be the more appropriate next step, though. Unless you've seen those, in which case uh… something else.

About 80% done with Lolita, which is… pretty fucking dark, and depressing in both subject matter and self-esteem. Maybe my prose is just more concise… yeah… that's it…

Generic reels in box-office.

Which did you like the best? I'm a Rear Window fan myself.

Saw:

Except Crouching Tiger doesn't reward you for the suspension. Or at least, I wasn't rewarded. I grew up with Wu Xia, damnit, and Ang Lee had to go pretty it up and tack on the lamest philosophical pretense ever recycled from Chinese TV programming. Bleh.

I find Fincher to be overrated, too, but he's certainly turning out better work than most budget-ready directors these days. Even though I remain lukewarm toward The Game, Zodiac, Fight Club, and am leaning con on The Social Network, Fincher can hit the right beats and is certainly talented.

God, I loved TAOJJBTCRF… unjustly overshadowed by the other 'guys in a big wild wasteland' movies in 2007, definitely a top-o-the-decade sort of movie.

Oscar-worthy's not particularly a compliment around these parts. Or any parts, really… see The Help, EL&IC, etc.

i think there's a difference of 'getting' versus 'liking'.
