I'm not sure there's a lot of symbolism in the spider. It reminded me that this kid is just out harmlessly collecting critters, something lots of kids do. I used to do that at my brother's baseball games when I was a kid. He's out being free. Having a blast.

Upon rewatching that scene I paid special attention to Walt while the shooting goes down. Walt doesn't move. If anything he's got a weird smirk on his face.

The point that I took from the suspicious perfection of heist was that even if you fucking nail every aspect of the operation things can still go horribly wrong. All it takes is a kid on a dirt bike to turn a success into a disaster.

Brutal, crushing sadness.

Potential happy ending: Jesse leaves the meth business and uses his knowledge of terrible, terrible things to write the most awesome comic book series ever, featuring characters from the sketches he did as a kid.

Your reviews are the best. The rest of these folks can read write-ups on Slate, which is TERRIBLE. Don't ever read anything about Breaking Bad on Slate.

I do have a bit of a problem with the idea that Walt starts out as a good man. It's true that if you knew a chemistry teacher who loved his family and had a kid with palsy you would probably assume that he's a good man. But it's evident in season 1 that he's been bitter about how his life has turned out for years and

I heard the train, but completely forgot about the cold open until the kid showed up again.

Yeah the last minutes of "Full Measure" still stand as the biggest gut-punch for me. Just a few minutes earlier Walt seemed like he really might give up Jesse to save his own life, and then the final shot of the season is a crying Jesse about to shoot someone he doesn't want to? It kills me.

The real kick in the gut is that at various times all the characters involved in the train heist have drawn various lines at children: Lydia tries to make Walt swear on his children's lives; Mike won't kill Lydia because she doesn't want her daughter to find her dead body or think she disappeared; Jesse sets off a
