It's more in vogue because the majority of AV Club commenters are American. On a daily basis the worst of Christianity is on show in America, and christian religiosity is constantly shoved down our throats. Atheists in the UK have plenty to say about the rise of Islam and some Muslims wanting the introduction of some

Ultimately religion is a case of selectively picking whatever view of the universe you want, and then defending it with non-sequiturs. There's no way to argue against a true believer as they can just change the goal posts as they go along, such as picking which bits are literal, and which bits have to be struggled

"….but you will blow me first" does have a kind of rape-y vibe to it.

@Dr Robuttnik, ostensibly that sounds like it should work, but it just doesn't. Countries, or states, with the death penalty still have murderers. Christianity has been around a few thousand years and was especially widespread in Europe for most of that time. The most cursory examination of European history will show

Yes, it would be miraculous if that happened. But it won't, so keep waiting. Christ will be here any day now, it's only been 2,000 years. Any day now!

I hated her little recovery self-aggrandisement . 'I took lots of drugs and now I don't so I can do anything! I'm a survivor.' Narcissistic bullshit.

Yes, you can pray. But you will be praying for someone who absolutely would rather that you didn't, who thinks you are a credulous fool, and knows that your god doesn't exist. So go on respectfully doing something that you know would piss him off. And he'll carry on talking about what idiots religious people are.

I recall that as a kid we all thought it was bullshit that no one ever got shot. It seemed really irresponsible, sending a message that automatic weapons did nothing but make bad guys do somersaults into cardboard boxes then run away.

@LUTZ, I would love that CD set. Or, failing that, a track list.

I can tolerate the fact that the artists knew nothing about the books -they're young, mostly, and have been concentrating on art. What really fucked me off was the fact that the judges clearly had no idea about the books, or design, or the possibilities of what book design should be.

About as boring as Fried Green Tomat……, oh, I get it now.

@Bupkis, I think that it wasn't a slip up on the writer's part. The Doctor said earlier in the episode that there are fixed points in time and that this wasn't one of them. One of the things that I like about NuWho is that they addressed the idea of alternate realities and the holistic nature of earlier changes in the

The reason that some of us would prefer it if there was a chance to discuss Who on the BBC schedule is nothing to do with the ADDification of culture, or a desire for anyone here to "adjust your life to reflect my views", and it really is rather hyperbolic of y'all to claim so. The reason is that the AV Club, for all

Well then….

I think he was treating it like a crit in art school, where the point is that everyone speaks up. I think that when it is presented with fast edits and frenetic music it comes across more calculated than it necessarily was.

I thought that what she did was more subtle and interesting than it originally appeared, and more technically difficult. I think that the judges were looking for typical macho art school bullshit, and as they weren't bludgeoned with an obvious message, or even an obvious effect then they dismissed it.

@Bupkis - I have a golden rule for comments on the AV Club. If it makes no sense, and it isn't an obvious troll, then it's a reference.

Hey, Crusaders for Moorish Dignity, that is also the British spelling of Superman. It was a copyright issue with George Bernard Shaw.

The point when Doogie Howser SS turned up was the point for me that I truly understood the movie was a satire. All the other pieces had me wondering but NPH's uniform confirmed for me what Verhooven's intention was.

Oligocene Temple Pilots.
