"It's like daddy hit mommy and we're all sitting here at the kitchen table waiting for someone to speak." Whoa, whoa, whoa, I thought quoting Dane Cook was supposed to get you automatically flamed on the internet. Flamed to a crisp. Instant flaming. More flaming than if the Human Torch came out of the closet. Flames.

But hell, at least in ID4 there was a sense of victory. "Hey, we finally beat those alien bastards. We won the war." There's nothing at all to celebrate at the end of 2012.

Compared to the other movies listed? It's a monumentally stupid action movie with a ridiculous premise based on a toy line that never forgets what it is or pretends to be anything else. It's obviously not actually a "good" movie that can be defended on its own, but compared to Emmerich's treacly tripe it stands as fun

I could defend Transformers (well, only the first one) over Independence Day or 10,000 B.C. or The Day After Tomorrow or Godzilla. Emmerich's movies tend to get stupider on repeat viewings, while Bay's seem to get all of the stupidity out right away so you can more easily enjoy the gratuitous explosions.

I was going to make the same observation. Jay Mohr keeps getting opportunities, and it baffles me. He's like the terrible first round draft pick who teams keep bringing in with the idea that he just needs "the right environment" to finally reach his potential. Only Jay never had much potential and went undrafted but

Reebokalypse! Who will be the sole survivor?

Had it just been ended at "blow" it would have been more appropriate as a Craigslist title line…

Comedy groupings as related to pickup basketball…
Interesting. For Anchorman, Koechner would be like the big man who pulls down rebounds and sets good picks and contributes without scoring much.

I actually think that the Saw franchise is much worse because of the allegedly "complex" storylines. The Friday the 13th movies (and Final Destination's sequels, for that matter) were uniformly awful, but at least the films and fans are/were aware that the movies are only about ridiculous kills and naked girls.

Given the overall quality of previous years, I'd also question how much of an "off year" this is. Lake Mungo and the ambition (if not execution) of Dread make this year at least comparable to every other year regardless of the lack of quality in most of the other flicks…

R.I.P. Guru - A thousand curses upon Solar
The shit Solar pulled / is pulling is reprehensible. I hope a plane engine falls through the roof of his house and lands on his bed as he sleeps. Anyway, R.I.P. Gifted Unlimted… Mass Appeal Royalty and Moment of Truth have been in constant rotation this morning…
