This theory is entirely non-canonical (and not my own), but I really liked the explanation that light sabers aren't actually LIGHT so much as they're some kind of plasma-or-something contained in a forcefield. Which makes Kylo Ren's lightsaber in TFA make a lot more sense - his containment field's not very good, and

Today in I-need-more-sleep: For a good thirty seconds after seeing the headline, I couldn't shake the impression that, like, she was literally offered half of Duchovny's pay, meaning that his pay was being halved in order to pay her. So they'd end up with the same amount but Duchovny was getting… less than before?

Aha, thanks! I'm clearly not up on my Tolkein lore. :)

I thought the Elves all came from the West, didn't they?

I saw it for the first time a year or two ago, via the Rifftrax version. I found it quite amusing at least in that context. It's a reasonably terrible movie objectively, but it could be enjoyable regardless. I'm not sure how I'd have found it without the Rifftrax treatment on top, but I suspect I would have found

Some friends and I have been playing through (we're up to June or so), and it's honestly not really any worse than regular Pandemic. For every terrible thing that happens on the board you've generally got some other bonus-type-thing to help offset it, and if you start doing poorly your "funding level" goes up which

Nice to see Chelsea Wolfe's Abyss up there in a few individual lists. That album just blew me away. My inner goth was thrilled to have an album like that pop up.

So… music you've heard (except for one song) is pure crap, and all music you haven't heard of sucks donkey dick.

Does it help or make worse to know that the umlaut's being used "ironically" in a Spinal Tap sort of way, and the video game involves Jack Black?

I do this pretty regularly, honestly, though I suppose nowadays I've probably at least read a tiny blurb about it before buying. The one that stands out most was Rachel's (seriously, how would you turn that into a posessive?) "The Sea and the Bells," which ended up blowing my mind when I got to listen to it. The

The book's original cover (or at least, "original" as in the first one I saw, with the spacesuit being caught up in an orange dust-storm thing) was super awesome. I had a total judging-the-book-by-its-cover moment and snapped a picture of it so I'd remember to check the book out later.

Yeah, I absolutely did love the visual and sound design in Prometheus. I actually had a great time watching it, primarily because of that, and in spite of the absolute trash the rest of the movie was. I don't regret the ticket purchase.

Good gods, I'd forgotten about the Spawn soundtrack! There's some pretty great stuff on there. I guess I know what I'm listening to tonight…

I know I'm late to this party, but I can't stop listening to Mile Markers. Loving the album in general…

To be fair, the book's rather corny as well. I didn't read the book until I'd seen the movie's trailer, and had assumed that the movie had intentionally changed the tone of the book to be more palatable for a movie audience, but after reading the book I'm guessing it's probably just accurate.

I'd only been aware of that song via Weird Al's parody of it, originally, but the song is undeniably catchy and upbeat as hell. When I got around to looking at the lyrics for the original, it wasn't even terribly cringeworthy. So: well done to everyone involved in the creation of that track, I guess!

I enjoy how Grant's drawing makes him look like he's just personally driven that specific dinosaur into extinction using nothing but a hammer. Five minutes before that scene, there was a living, breathing dinosaur there. No longer.

Ha, that's exactly what I was thinking. "Well, see, the point of the Kobayashi Maru is exactly what it says it is!"

Hrmph. Well, okay then, so it's *REALITY* that looks weird. To hell with you all and your Euclidean spaces!

That…. drawing of Brooke looks just WEIRD. Why is her torso like that? And where's that right arm coming from?
