Ha, I must admit to being in the same boat as Jamesf (though contrary to his trying to track the album down, I've just never even sought it out because I figured I'd hate it). Now I'm listening to all these samples and thinking that it's a real nice slab of noise to listen to.

To hell with science fiction buddy drinking nights; Twitter is where you can watch Simon Pegg and Nick Frost write their own Hot Fuzz slashfic!

It took me a long time to get into Quaristice - strangely, listening to the satellite projects (Quaristice.quadrange.ae.ep, the "special edition" disc 2) somehow made everything gel together, and now I'm quite fond of that era.

I actually enjoyed Alien Trespass quite a bit. So…. I guess I have no taste? Then again, I did see it for free, so perhaps that skewed my internal rating a bit.

Heh. He also said "1997" when he introduced Mike Garson at the Henry Fonda (second-to-last show). To be fair, I think it was 97 that he was working with Bowie on I'm Afraid of Americans… I'm guessing it's typical for fans to be more precise with their timelines than the people actually involved are.

Easy - 13 Ghosts II. So gorgeous. There's not a lot to it, but the atmosphere is perfect.

Heh, I wasn't going to mention it, but since you did… ALL of the downloadable options for The Slip were free, including FLAC, etc. The only version which cost anything was the limited-edition numbered hardcopy CD/DVD, which didn't come out for at least a month or so after the downloads went up.

Alas, no new info about The Slip
It's kind of a shame that The Slip was released the way it was, simply because its method of distribution and consequent "omg will Trent Reznor save the future of music?" type coverage basically meant that no interview with him would ever end up touching on the album's content at all.

You… you DO realize that the quote you used contains the phrase "there's an exception here and there," right? And, er, one song could probably count as… an exception?

A Dirty Shame
I've actually never really understood how that one got an NC-17. Seriously, most of the movie would have fit fine in a PG-13, and any recent Apatow or Apatow-inspired comedy goes well beyond what's in A Dirty Shame. IMO, anyway.

Maelstrom
… totally rules. It's open source to boot, and fairly amusing to play around with the code.

Yeah, vocals are often an issue for me as well. I love Sunn O))) but I wish they weren't so enamored with the death metal vocals. I'm always thrilled when I find an all-acoustic track from them. "Blarrrrghhhh…. I'm eeeeviiiiillllllll…."

Bah indeed. I'm in the same boat as Noel, dropping from 90 tracks to 50. There's no grandfathering going on here; they're just retiring the old plans and giving you new ones at the same price point that you've been subscribed as. Ah, for the old days of Emusic Unlimited! Though I wasn't terribly surprised when

I'm another in the "liked it in the theaters but grew less fond upon reflection" crowd. The alternate universe thing that Morning Wodehouse mentioned certainly plays a part in it for me - it's just so strange that there's a movie that basically flat-out says that it's not canon, though I suppose that should make it

Just got back from a showing - there certainly IS some new footage in there, though certainly not the 80% alluded to in the review (I've only seen the BBC version of the show, so perhaps there's more footage which didn't make it to the Discovery version). As you might expect, though, there's no new *segments* really

Personally, I loved it
… though I agree that it doesn't really add anything to the standard 50s sci-fi monster movie. As someone who loves those movies, though, it was great to see a new one. I honestly enjoyed this one far more than most recent "monster" films.

Meh
I saw this at the wifilmfest last year, and had been looking forward to it, but by the end of the movie I was really turned off by it. Not only is there the whole making-nothing-but-bad-decisions aspect of the main character, there's also the fact that because of how the time travel thing is set up, the chain of

Apostrophe
Having never paid any attention to these guys, I had never noticed that apostrophe until now. How horrible! Unless there's a Plain White T that owns something? Kind of like Rachel's? Anyway…

Ah, finally!
Saw this at the wifilmfest last spring and it was definitely my favorite movie there. I've been hoping it'd get an actual theatrical release at some point.
