The oft-quoted "one in four adult women has been sexually assaulted" is incorrect, it's actually more like 11%. Still way too high, obviously:

The "1 in 4 North American women will be sexually assaulted during their lifetime" is definitely wrong (it dates from a non-scientific survey in the 70s that included things like leering and catcalls in its definintion of sexual

That is an often spouted factoid that isn't accurate. It comes from a non-scientific survey from Cosmo in the 70s that included in its definition of "rape" things like leering and cat calls, basically anything that would make a woman uncomfortable.

Especially if it started out completely innocuous and normal, and then things slowly started changing around week to week in ways that at first you would chalk up to continuity errors, until an eerie pattern began to emerge.
