Her second stint on the original was a total waste, but by that point, the show had become so bad it was just really nice to see a familiar face.  Plus, she looked incredible.  I just watched her return episode the other day, actually, and you're right.  She looked remarkably like JVA.

Judging from his Supernatural reviews, he doesn't seem to read the comments section.  He also doesn't seem to do any basic research before reviewing a show either.  I wonder what kind of blackmail he has on VanDerWerff that keeps him employed?    JR would be so proud.

This was definitely an episode where pieces were being moved into place.  I didn't mind, though.  It was entertaining and I found the addition of the young prophet interesting.

I'm thinking about starting a petition on change.org to bring Zack Handlen back.  Extreme?  Possibly.  Douchey?  You bet.  But, gee whiz.  The reviews are getting worse each week.
