Yeah, "musical" is a great way to describe it. The combination of Carlin's cadence, accent, and well-honed delivery made his swear words land beautifully. I really dig his "gruff New Yorker" asides where he says something like, "Get the fuck outta here!" And of course, "Fuck YOU, I'm getting ON the plane!"

Yep, and he's funny. I love how you can hear Springsteen chuckle in the background after Zevon sings, "Even the Lhasa Apso seems to be ashamed."

I had a very similar experience in middle school.

Warren Zevon. His lack of fame compared to many of his contemporaries baffles me, especially considering the quality of his work. Whatever — if you meet a serious Zevon fan in real life, you know they're probably a cool cat.

Hah, I would love to read a collection of sci-fi short stories that deals with inane stuff like interplanetary gentrification, space traffic jams, some drunken tourist ruining the Apollo 11 site, or "fuck, Kessler syndrome is in effect around Mars thanks to the prick who accidentally rammed the space station while

I like George Carlin's definition: God's a spooky incompetent father figure who doesn't give a shit.

No, I don't think you're wrong. Victor Davis Hanson makes this point often, though he's ridiculously smarmy about it. E.g., "So far Trump’s supporters have put up with his hypocrisies, self-contradictions, and unhinged statements — as if all that is felt to be a small price for hearing him pulverize Washington

I know you're being somewhat facetious, but I think a combination of spite and nihilism mostly explains Trump's popularity.

Blues Brothers 2000 was worth it for one and only one reason: the always-entertaining and dearly-missed Warren Zevon filled in for Paul Shaffer on The Late Show while the latter was filming with the movie in Toronto.

I've probably spent $500 on gas over the years just to drive around listening to Darkness on the Edge of Town. This album was meant to be played full blast in your car while speeding through the desert, or a stretch of lonely road at 11:30 at night.

That site is a hot mess.

I'm a sucker for silly sight gags — my favorite was the sign twirler in the background at Carr('s) funeral. Had to pause the show I was laughing so hard.

There was this… there was this Robert Mitchum movie. And it was about these moonshine runners down south. And I never saw the movie, I only saw the poster in the lobby at the theater [chuckles]. And I… took the title and I wrote this song, but I didn't… I didn't think that there was ever a place that was like… that
