Yes, larrysellershomework, it deserves high marks for that alone.
I, too, am echoing love for this series. I'm slightly older than Hyden, so I feel like this is right in my wheelhouse, too.
I thought the tin mask was why Jimmy sheepishly showed him the book, The Tin Soldier.
I just liked how they worked it in, but in a way that suggested it had been there all along and the guys just didn't notice - exactly like you would expect them to. A brilliant piece of writing.
Apparently not, but I'll grade it….it's an A.
Girlfight
Is indeed kick ass. Glad to see it finally get its proper respect.
Oh, and there's a new mixtape with Jazzy Jeff and Skillz, where you learn that Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince were offered the movie "House Party" as some sort of settlement for the "Nightmare on My Street" lawsuit. They turned it down, lucky for us - we never would have gotten the comedic stylings of Kid N Play.
He got kicked off the stage of some DJ AM tribute in Vegas recently. Like DJ AM is (was) half the fucking DJ that Jazzy Jeff is…
That is one of the greatest beats of that era, hands down. I still listen to it frequently - thank you Cinemax for using it in a promo to make me find it.
There's a Switch/Ballroom Blitz mashup that's surprisingly tolerable.
I actually didn't mind 5 Boroughs - after some thread in here last month I went back and listened to it again, and I like the stripped down beats of it. A little heavy on "We love NYC!", but overall, not bad on its own merits.
"Kill an unborn baby and you still couldn't de-fetus" is probably my favorite of anything he's ever said.
Looking forward to hearing the whole thing
Celph Titled is one of those guys that I will listen to anything he does twice
(not a second-ie attempt…). He has to rank among the all-time greats for punch-line emcees. The limited selections I've heard from this so far have me excited for the full album.
Agreed on dreading the Jimmy-opium story line
And, while I do like the show, this lack of Chalky is starting to become bothersome. Surely there's a better Chalky storyline to be had than an opium addiction for Jimmy.
@Miles - that's kind of my thinking, as well. To me it seems that Nucky doesn't find any of the people he deals with to be an intellectual match for him, and can pretty much say or do anything he wants, all the while predicting his path to victory. I think Margaret is the first person (that we've met) that gives him…
The two standout scenes for me were the lemonade-stand/crash and the "monsters aren't all bad" story - the story was sufficiently sappy, but I thought it was played out very, very well. For some reason, it stuck with me even this morning.
I'll echo the need to notice the belly-disguising - I counted the billowy shirt, the towel, the actual pool water and the tote bag as being used tonight. Any others?
Cat-noise reduction.
Mickey, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that peeks into AV Club while my students are doing some seatwork, and then laugh at something that I should never repeat to a 7th grader. Which, of course, only makes them more curious.
