Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince are infinitely more respected in hip-hop circles than Ice and Hammer. Not to mention Jazzy Jeff is one of the most respected DJ's in hip-hop: http://www.youtube.com/watc…

Was anyone else really upset by Rabin's characterization of Nice & Smooth as "pop-rap goofballs"? I know the guys were all about fun, but they were hardly "pop-rap," and they are MASSIVELY respected in the hip-hop community. I'd call into question the hip-hop credentials of anyone involved in the genre that would

Yup!

I was thinking in terms of being an hour-plus unbroken sludge metal epic, but yeah, great choices. I'm sure some Hijokaidan records like Romance would fit the unbroken, single-song-album bill nicely in the harsh noise spectrum.

Also, Robert Ashley's Automatic Writing.

I also don't feel like Liturgy is bad at all. If you ignore all the backlash and some of the obnoxious interviews given by their frontman, the records are rather solid. Not groundbreaking, but definitely good.

"If you don't like Iron Maiden, you're not allowed to listen to Darkthrone." ——-> Exactly!

For a nice companion piece of sorts to Dopesmoker, definitely check out Boris' Absolutego (also reissued on Southern Lord).

I kinda feel like black metal has a good standing among "hipsters" and the Pfork-esque press. They seem to salivate over lots of black metal leaning acts or the genre itself, in spite of some of the genre's more unsavory associations (murder, NSBM, etc.)
