I think the beer is an early sign of Chronos interfering. There were a lot of weird time lapses in this ep, Dean slept for 36 hours? Frank's confusion about it being four weeks or four days since Dean's research request?

I wouldn't mind another ep with Dr. Robert!
I think the boys will be fine without contacts. S1 had them going from city to city based on John's journal/coordinates, they'll likely do the same thing with Roman's stolen folders.
Wow that was solid, I was so happy. The pace kept the angst from weighing down the story, and the energy was fantastic.
I just hope the writers don't try for Noble Death Wish Dean should Bobby die, like Sam was toward the end of S4.
I predict a great big angsty Dean monologue over Bobby's comatose body before the heart rate monitor beeps back to life.
that was totally wicked, funny banter, great villain, great ending.
The credits were genius. Also the running gag with a waffle iron ("Yeah, it's just a thing, like a shoe, or a waffle iron.")
I loved the first cafe scene with the boys, Ackles did a great job with the whole "really nothing's wrong, you're not uncomfortable at ALL" routine.
I think they just ran out of time on the ep and it had to be a "ok laterz" response on Dean's part due to time constraints. They squeezed a lot of material into one story on top of the villains, you met a boss, introduced a romantic interest, discovered a weapon, revealed a secret, and brought Crowley back in.
So at what point is Dean too drunk to function? We need a variation on Sam's drunken speech in 2.11
Dean surrounded by bees in the background while the Starks fought was a great shot, and the nailgun death was fun.
I am going to miss Evil Sam, he really is the best hunter now, and watching him improvise weapons and escape attempts in Bobby's house is the most fun I've had in ages.
Bad. Ass. Low on the angst, the villain taunts the prisoners, the boys threaten revenge, and Sam using his own blood to build a demon trap manages to come off as more inspired than all the times Cas cut himself or carved sigils into his own chest. The snark came thick and fast, you had a strong female character who…
And that wasn't Giles in every Buffy ep? Or Hermione in the school library? There's always going to be the exposition nerd backing up the hero.
What bugs me about Dean's vigilantism is his idea that 'freaks' don't reform. If Amy were human, he'd probably call the cops and let her stew in jail, like he did with Rufus.
Yeah that end scene with the kid was painful, but otherwise I thought the ep was good. The boys are being hunted, which means soon they'll have to give up using credit cards or maybe even ditch the car, so I think we'll see more resourcefulness out of them.
So are they signed on for Season 8, or is this the last season? They mentioned that the Leviathans were older than anything, I wonder if they're going to have to use some sort of Destroy Lineage spell (like in the end of Jim Butcher's "Changes") that kills the Boss (and First?) Monster and then, in turn, kills all…
I doubt the Lovecraft theme is gone entirely. If physical violence doesn't kill the bad guys, they'll have to resort to magic, so I predict a trip to a New England university to visit an eccentric math professor who's discovered black arithmancy capable of Boss Monster Death, or the heroes break into a Boss Monster…
