I didn't really know her work, but a recent recommendation to check out her Paula Deen Suicide Note bit (which is on youtube) made me a fan. She is brilliant and totally her own thing. "Bon appetite, and goodbye."

Lily Taylor as Lisa is one of the saddest characters I think I've ever seen. Just a brilliant, funny, harrowing, haunting performance.

I enjoy watching the panels on youtube. But I'm pretty sure if I was surrounded by oceans of people all day like that I would be a screaming lunatic by the end of the day, even if I did get to stare at the actual ocean while waiting in (not 'on') line.

I like Inga Cadranel as Angie, too. But that is not what he meant and you know it!!

My favorite ever Hallmark programming thing was when they made a miniseries about the Thomas Jefferson-Sally Hemmings affair, making the great point that though she was his slave who he had multiple children with, that is incredibly romantic because he really loved her.

I think Christopher makes a very good point about Pertwee's doctor that I don't think I have ever really exactly worked out before. He is so charismatic and versatile and has loads of what is necessary to be a great doctor, but it really is his acting CHOICES that screw the character up and make him sort of

And in rebuttal to someone conceivably saying that Jo Grant wasn't that bad of a retrograde character because that's how it was back then, both Liz Shaw AND Zoe preceded her, both lovely, intelligent, confident female characters. Jo was charming, but in the context of the history of the show's companions, she really

I just generally find Jo Grant to be a sort of disappointingly weak character compared to the much stronger & more mature female companions that bookended her (Liz Shaw & Sarah Jane).

It is just so wrong seeing Jo Grant beat a dude up. Not in her wheelhouse.

Doctor Who is not for everyone certainly, but if you are into geeky sci-fi you will love and appreciate its spirit and creativity. The new series I think is less "cheesy" than the classic Who series, though opinions may vary I suppose. Honestly it probably doesn't overlap that tremendously with the audience for Orphan

Great interview & I think Candyman was the right call to end it on, pretty much a horror classic of its era & one of her more memorable lead performances.

Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu both could have been deserving for Elementary, I agree.

Fonda was a bit of a stiff in that, I hear what you are saying there. My counterargument for Lady Eve—and admittedly it is mostly based on my adoration of Barbara Stanwyck, which is a subjective thing—is that she had enough chemistry for both of them.

SYMPATHY CLONED

Fuck yeah fucking Palm Beach Story! If I had to rank Preston Sturges-directed comedies it would be way up there though I think it gets less love than some. Alright fuck it I'm doing it:

So if the other best actress nominees all died between now and the ceremony, would they have to then give the award to Tatiana Maslany? I'm asking for a friend

Okay, I am enjoying this thread as much as I expected to, but in a different way than I expected to.

I really enjoy this movie—would rather watch it than the remake with Geoffrey Rush anyday, though I am certainly not  going to argue with the phrases "lame" or "cheese-ball" about it. I showed it to one of my American history classes last year on Halloween with the thin excuse that it was an example of 1950s culture &

There is robbery and then there is robbery. I think not nominating Tatiana Maslany for best actress is, like, one of the greatest injustices in the history of the world. I am feeling mildly homicidal about it. The only consolation really is that it just confirms how irrelevant the Emmys are.

that shocked me too, how 2 or 3 times as many people commented on Doctor Who episodes as the equally excellent Orphan Black episodes that followed it. But, Orphan Black did get dropped on us with little warning and I do appreciate how its cult seems to have grown.
