I am strangely pissed off by Patton Oswalt's retweet of a picture of Mia Farrow & Philip Roth captioned "Watching Sharknado." That poseur Philip Roth is horning in on watching Syfy Originals! Where was he when I was watching Wyvern or Mansquito? But now that it's cool he wants in. I don't think so…

"Table Top" is, to me, a very cool show. Wil Wheaton just recently did a thing about how it is made, obviously the editing is important, and a lot of thought goes into what games they play, they have to be fairly readily understandable with cards and/or board that are visually pleasing. And I would add that he is a

Seriously, what a missed opportunity. I have never seen twitter (or my friends' facebook pages) blow up like that over a TV show/movie.

This strikes me as a bastardized bigger budget variation on Wil Wheaton's web series "Table Top," but with actual celebrities instead of geeky psuedo-celebrities (my peeps) and generic parlor games instead of often quite awesome board games. So, more generic and worse in pretty much every way.

Even though nothing she does seems to really land, I remain stubborly convinced that at some point Carla Gugino is going to be a huge star. She is just too good and too hot for it to be otherwise.

At first I was disappointed when I heard it starred Tara Reid and Ian Whatshisname from 90210. I would have preferred some of the Syfy original actors that I actually like—Danica McKellar or Misha Collins or whoever. But the more I think of it, it is fine. Their talent levels are probably about right for this. And

Also I don't think empathy is exactly the #1 qualification people look for when they are hiring cops. (Have you ever met one?)

"I don't know what came over me."
"Lack of discipline."
"….Possibly."

I think there is a chance Sharknado might be the best Syfy original since Malibu Shark Attack. (And yes I am serious.)

And Linda Fiorentino! And Will Patton is suprisingly (?) perfect as the scary leather daddy.

I think that of Scorsese's movies I might only prefer Goodfellas and Mean Streets to this. Just an amazing film. Both Catherine O'Hara and Teri Garr were incredibly well  used I thought too, giving performances that were funny, goofy, and then ultimately frightening.

It seems to me there is some backstory still to be revealed about how Kruger's character could have gotten where she is despite her oddness. The captain maybe was her surrogate father and has looked after her very closely, hence her fear when she heard he was going to retire? it is a bit crazy but I dunno, I will go

I love how when you cross the border into Texas on I-10 from the east the sign says something like "El Paso 895 miles." I realize that is intended simply to intimidate me, and it does.

There is one ad that I've seen several times over the last few days that is largely Charlie Day talking to Ron Perlman. It sold me on the movie a lot more than the earlier ads I'd seen.

Charlie Day in Pacific Rim is gonna rise up, he's gonna kick a little
ass, gonna kick some ass in the USA, gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a
flag, gonna fly on an eagle, he's gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a
big robot, gonna rule this world, gonna kick some giant monster ass,
gonna rise up, kick a little ass,

I fear that I will always be disappointed in Tatiana Maslany's future roles if she is limited to playing one character per movie or show. I need more Maslany than that!

Twitter has anticipated your (and my) confusion:

Oh yeah that is great. And then there is the quick cut to Michael Cera as Hamilton holding the gun to his head and looking very confused.

I do love that one. "Fucking Aaron Burr's not on any money…"

It seems sort of on-the-nose, but then again you can't really argue with a hot lion-girl.
