Isn't quality of playing a factor? It seems to me that it doesn't get embarrassing as long as they're putting good, passionate shows and enjoy doing it, as opposed to performing bland, faded xerox copies of songs and wanting to just get over with it for the night.

Isn't this article kind of a justification of shabby work? Aren't critics supposed to be more savvy, more perceptive of what is good and what stands the test of time than other people? If they don't, aren't they simply bad at what they do?
