That ending is the best thing about what is otherwise junior-grade Keaton.

Think those are the same movie.

Am disappointed that "The Land Beyond the Sunset" didn't win for 1912, watched that on YouTube recently and it blew my mind.

Agreed that the straight rating would be better but this is still a great effort.

From a filmmaking perspective it deserves to be there. Watch other films from 1915 to see how far ahead Griffith was.

Hitchcock aside, I'd argue that there isn't a lot of good, relatively speaking, from the end of the studio system to the rise of the auteurs in the late sixties. 15 years or so of a fallow period.

I agree. I like that movie, really I do, but it's got so many plot holes and parts of it are really, really sappy—could have done without the scene where Andy plays opera over the PA system. Could she? Other than by shooting him the next time he visits? "Clark" can disappear at any time and leave Martha holding the bag.

Yep. Could probably afford a perfectly lovely two-bedroom condo in Bismarck on Martindale's "Americans" salary.

"Girl bent over desk" photo is one way to increase page views, to be sure.
