I confess I don't know why Thomas has been getting all conspiratorial with Baxter in the first place. In the first season it wasn't at all clear why he and O'Brien were scheming together, but at least Thomas had a clear goal, to get Bates's job. Now, um, just scheming for scheming's sake because Thomas Has To Scheme.

That's a good question, actually. Aren't they getting great ratings out of this? Why would they pass on more showings?

That's what I was thinking—surely it was a buyer's market for eligible young bachelors in England.

This show has always been in romance novel territory.

I think technologically, America was more modern than England. And the nuttiness of Prohibition aside, American was more modern than England, with less of the staid old class system.

You realize you just stepped on a joke.

Once again, it was quite clearly established that Vera Bates killed herself

I remember reading Winston Churchill saying pretty much the same thing.

You might want to rewatch the scenes involving the Vera Bates plot, in which it was made quite clear that Bates did not kill her. There was a whole plot thread where Anna figured that out. It happened. I realize that the AV Club commentariat hates the hell out of Bates, and in all honesty I'm kind of tired of

Think you're reaching here, but then again, who knows? I did get a kick out of how clearly Lord Grantham loathes him. Poor Thomas, nobody likes you.

Good Lord, I replied to the second post, I had no idea you'd made this dumb post twice.

Yep, the show made it quite clear he didn't kill Vera.

Oh please, shut up. What are you doing reading a review for an episode you haven't seen yet? This website has always published its reviews after the show airs in the east. I live in California and I didn't come here until after I'd watched the show, because I'm not a moron.

Judo, although they did win their second gold ever a couple of days later in boxing.

The hockey game aired live on the NBC Sports Network, starting at 7:30 am Eastern. And yes, you could see in the live action that those dudes were playing their asses off. Frankly I find it irritating when the writer of this article mocks the audience for caring about games like this. It's Olympic hockey. It's

After Mongolia won its first ever gold in anything at the 2008 Beijing games, they literally danced in the streets.

In what context should they be looking at the result of the 1988 games? Should announcers make a habit of covering idle moments during wrestling or shot put by saying "Oh yeah, the Soviets kicked our ass back in Seoul"?

You were on a French cruise ship in 1919? Did you vote for Harding or Cox?

Presumably this is ignorant trolling. Going into the 1980 games the Soviets had won four golds in a row and five of six since they began participating. They beat NHL all-star teams. They had a 27-game Olympic winning streak going into the Miracle on Ice game. Their opponents were college students.

Yeah, interviews with athletes are almost always a waste of time, and when they aren't, like with Richard Sherman, people get mad.
