God, why do bad shows happen to good people? It seems like half the shows this season involve creators I like and premises that make me question everything else they've ever done.

I would have loved to see Aidy Bryant behind the desk. She can be a little grating during sketches, but I think that her snark would have worked really well on WU.

But…America! There's a black guy there now! Isn't that what you wanted? Now no one will ever complain about SNL making stupid decisions and solving the wrong problems ever again.

Or at least for the month until they expire because this is truly one of the stupidest promotions ever!

See also: why any hesitant enthusiasm I might have had for Gotham has now mysteriously evaporated.

I watched the Hairspray remake last night, and I'm beginning to think that watching Pfeiffer chew the scenery is the best part of most things.

I find the fact that I've heard of these people depressing though, because this is just the ultimate sign they've given up and I sort of hoped they'd do better. Like Mean Girls dude, whatshisface. I thought he had a hope of a career.

It's the only Michael Bay movie I like, which I thought for a really long time meant I didn't hate Michael Bay completely, until I realized I only liked the things about it that were unrelated to it being a Michael Bay movie.

Well, to be fair, this isn't the final scene either in the sense that it's the final scene of the narrative or the final scene of the movie proper, so it's not spoiling either the story or the surprise of the very very end and is really just a charming bit of character fluff. I'm a massive spoiler evangelist, but this

Andy Whitfield was so amazing at expressing that combination of humanity and arrogance. Ultimately, I think Liam McIntyre pulled off the switch, but he was never quite able to convey that simultaneous torment and self-involvement the way Whitfield was.

But these are serious movies about the darkness of the human condition. What you're suggesting might threaten to make these movies enjoyable, and that has to be avoided at all costs.

That's how I feel every time someone brings up Amy. I loved the Doctor's little dig about how relatively short Clara was, but really all it did was remind me how much I wish Amy was still around instead of Clara.

That's exactly how they feel! I think I just internalized how much I want a Victorian Time Travelling Lizard Lesbian spin-off to the point where every time she shows up, I just assume it's a crossover from that other, more interesting series I've made up.

Although I also feel like the show's had some issues with pacing for awhile now - most of the seventh season felt rushed due to the "blockbuster" attitude, and then the 50th and the Christmas special had weird flabby bits that threw the whole episode out of sync. I'm not sure if it's the wonky seasons or something

Some connection to River Song was my first thought (her daughter, perhaps?), and my second thought was oh God please no more. River's been so trampled into the ground at this point, and they've already done enough quasi-incest crap in that department without throwing in someone related to River who calls the Doctor

I just hope they lean more towards the intense, dangerous Doctor of the later part of the episode rather than the more manic "I forgot my hands!" one of the beginning. The end of the episode Doctor was really compelling; the beginning of the episode one felt way too hard like they were trying to appease the people who

Capaldi was indeed fantastic, but did it feel to anyone else like the show was trying just a bit too hard to sell him? It's not really fair to compare this episode to the series high point of The Eleventh Hour (as the review said, a more apt comparison anyway would be The Christmas Invasion), but there just seemed to

That's what I've been thinking, there's so much terrible shit going on in the world right now I really can't find anything wrong with everyone in the country dumping ice on their heads in the middle of summer.

Um, she outright said "I'M ALYSON HANNIGAN" like fifteen times; isn't that all that it takes for a successful impression?

Yeah, I mean, the only things I remember him doing were the WU segments, which were basically just a few minutes of standup. It was pretty solid stuff though, so hopefully this gave him the exposure to move onto something good but that actually uses his talents.
