I really don't understand the thought process that goes into booking hosts for SNL, unless it really is as simple as "this person's kind of famous right now." There are so many people who would be awesome or at least interesting (and also on low-rated shows on the same network that could really use a boost), but they

I agree - such an enjoyable movie, but the De Niro scenes are a little hard to get through. It's like they got so caught up on subverting your expectations they forgot to do anything else with the character.

So basically, they're still awful, but their incompetence somehow circled back around again to success.

That's what happens on most of these "reunion" episodes, though; it's always just a lot of "remember how much you liked this person." If it's ever funny, it's usually funny through the nostalgia filter, so I guess it's just a question of whether that nostalgia filter works for you or not. They generally seem a lot

It added a new twist to it, which they often seem to have trouble doing with these long-entrenched repeating sketches. Also, given that cast they had on hand, it was either that or The Californians, and I will take the Vogelchecks any day.

I would say that episodes 6 and 7 (the Huntress 2-parter) was the first time the show was legitimately good, but it really kicks into gear in the second half of the season (after the mid-season hiatus). Once you get to "Salvation," the last six episodes just kick so much ass, and that momentum really doesn't let up as

She is fast becoming my favorite character, which is saying something considering how much I wanted Oliver to just shoot her and get it over with at the beginning of the first season.

The show definitely doesn't lose much by her absence, but I will say that she has become at this point less of a total black hole of suck, and I think that's about the best we can expect.

I really do love Joel McHale, but I am absolutely unable to muster up even the slightest bit of enthusiasm for this whatsoever.

*gently overturns a trash can*

"Yeah, well, here, we call that TUESDAY."

Also when like a pretty substantial amount of show-time had passed and they cut back to Thea and Malcolm in the exact same positions we left them in…like, were they just staring at each other the whole time? Sharing dead relative stories?

After some reflection, I realize it was probably a fakeout, because you don't kill John Barrowman like that…but damn.

Sarah got a redemption arc and a mantle for Laurel to take up in her memory…I'm getting seriously concerned about the Lance sisters' relative survivial prospects.

Thea. What the everliving fuck.

I LOVE Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design, it's just pure fun from start to finish. It also made better use of a lot of tropes (the blanket fort, Jeff/Annie) than later repetitions of these tropes managed to do (the Ken Burns documentary was cool but a little tired, and I don't even want to get into the

I agree, I've wanted several times to show it to people as an introduction to the show, but I realize it wouldn't work because half of the appreciation is the fact that these are all new clips, so I end up just showing them Cooperative Calligraphy.

In some ways, these seasons are definitely better than the Moffat seasons - and even if, overall, I like the Moffat seasons better, I would never say that in a way which would force me to discount Eccleston and Tennant as phenomenal Doctors. But I think it's really just a matter of how much realism you want in your Doc

That would be a start…he and Cecily clearly lack the Tina/Jimmy or Seth/Amy (or even Seth/Cecily) "no look how much we like each other" chemistry. Maybe if he was "out of touch WASP baffled by his female co-host," they could do something more than mind-numbingly dull.

The Bechdel test is an excellent discussion starter, but the problems begin when people treat it as a goal. The point isn't that movies should be trying to pass it, it's that so many movies don't. But I think the bigger issue is that, because female representation in movies is such a shitshow, the few female
