Right, I'm not disagreeing that it's perfectly reconcilable in his head and certainly that he could read love into Virginia's behavior when he wanted the love to be there.
Right, I'm not disagreeing that it's perfectly reconcilable in his head and certainly that he could read love into Virginia's behavior when he wanted the love to be there.
But the difference, at least in his eyes, is that he was writing off the possibility of romance for the get-go — while he believed Virginia was just being coy and protecting herself.
I don't actually see her much like Trudy at all, besides some superficial things. They both are stronger people than one might assume based on the 50s housewife image. But I think Trudy has a bigger Lady Macbeth streak and was much more in charge of her marriage/husband than Libby ever seems to have been. The Campbell…
Yeah, I agree. She does seem like an inevitability. She's set her sights on him, with her mother's bad advice that you have to make the man love you (which in her case led to her being married to a guy who's probably gay). Ethan's made the wrong decision with her twice already and will probably continue to passively…
Wanted to add another thing that stuck out to me in this ep is the way that this is the second time Ethan's been confronted with a woman offering him a friends with benefits situation. Both times he was unhappy, even though the two women had the opposite intentions.
I think one difference is that in real life there's any number of reasons couples might call each other something, but on this TV show it's been chosen to say something. Even if they took it from reality, they wouldn't have used it if it stood out to them. And the fact that the couple is childless, that the…
I think inferring that his mother also had a miscarriage is a stretch. He does all sorts of things when he sleepwalks. If I was going to read something into his packing I'd say it was about trying to escape.
Though with Vivian it did seem like she'd very likely bleed after that experience. Not because her hymen "broke" or "tore" but because she seemed to not be lubricated at all. Bleeding during sex in general isn't that uncommon when the woman isn't ready. I was in pain watching it. Though I don't know if the amount of…
I could swear that the main time she looked truly unhappy to me about Nick's relationship was when he casually said he wasn't smoking anymore. Which wasn't necessarily a sign that she wanted him, but maybe just being confounded that for this other girl he would quit.
Yeah, I feel like just the fact that the kids all seem to have a friendly relationship with Rosso, even if they often think he's a dork, means he must be doing something right.
I'm always unclear what the job of guidance counselor is on TV. My guidance counselor basically talked to me about colleges (giving me no advice except to push one college she seemed to push on everybody) and once talking to me about a whole thing going on with a class I was trying to get into in 7th grade.
I always think Lindsay's interest in the hippies, too, is about other things besides them. Her liking the Grateful Dead makes the whole thing possible, but I'd imagine that traveling across the country has its own appeal. After all, Kim's going to and she doesn't care about the Dead. I think a big part of it is Kim…
One of the nice things about Lindsay's story is I think it shows how she can still go in the same direction she would have gone in general while being a wildly different person. Maybe Lindsay would have wound up at a good school either way, but she'd approach it very differently, probably become friends with different…
Oh! I understand now. I was completely turned around in my head. I was thinking of it as being like an animated film, but obviously in animation you just draw the character to match the voice. So I was confusing myself. I think I was mixing up something like dubbing animation with maybe dialogue replacement? Something…
I don't understand. It sounds like you're referring to a scene Shepard is doing with JS, but this scene only has AH and JS in it. SS can go into a booth or whatever by herself later. SS is going to try to match up with AH's timing because the scene's only filmed with AH.
They can just dub it in afterwards.
Knickers aren't any tighter in the crotch than trousers. The knickers story was more about humiliation and forced immaturity.
Being conventionally good-looking and nice isn't a guarantee of popularity, but it's a pretty solid guarantee of not being the kind of social pariah that Carrie White is. I can't speak for CM's performance but in commercials I did have trouble being able to tell which one was supposed to be Carrie. That was never a…
It's reputation has always included being a campy satire. That might not be what people first hear about it, but a lot of horror classics are intentionally campy and funny. Piper Laurie at first didn't even get her character until her husband said it was Brian DePalma and so it was satire.
I think the satire was intentional. But I don't know that it really lacks for special effects. What other effects does it need? Flying objects are flying objects whether they're done on a wire or with CGI. The FX I've seen in the commercial for this movie don't look so much better to me just for being glossier.…
