At least it's still beloved by all the Shakespeare scholars I know who like to get high and watch it at parties.

Not having seen La La Land or heard any of the songs before last night, I was like "man, if Lin-Manuel Miranda had to lose the EGOT to a song from fucking La La Land, couldn't it at least have been the good one?" But I guess if "City of Stars" is the defining song of the film, it makes sense.

That would have been incredible. I think that would have saved the whole thing.

Shoulda dumped him in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I don't think he was trying to foist the problem onto her, more asking for a second opinion. If he was trying to make her take the fall for it, it certainly didn't work, because everyone's blaming him for it now anyway.

They handled it as well as anyone could possibly be expected to, poor guys. I was impressed with that.

Yeah, that was awful.

"Ben Affleck and guest."

Mostly I found him incredibly dull, but he did have his moments. The Matt Damon gag was consistently hilarious.

Hey, he's still got a Best Director statue to fill the void with.

Yeah, that poor bastard's speech ended up being eerily prescient after all.

I was annoyed when I thought they'd won, but man, now I really do feel bad for them. And they took the fuck-up really gracefully.

….the fuck just happened?

"Let's use this to champion bold and diverse work…"

I didn't even really think of it as a sci-fi movie. I mean, sure, it has aliens, but they're just a plot device for exploring time and language and grief.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

I honestly thought they were doing it on purpose, like their attempt to reclaim "deplorables." I should've known that was giving them way too much credit.

I was in a Shakespeare-focused grad program, and not a rehearsal went by where someone or other didn't quote the "Are you going to do it like that?" bit.

As someone who will defend Shakespeare in Love until my dying breath, I will say that Saving Private Ryan had a more interesting plot. But honestly, they really are pretty evenly matched. My dad has been salty about Ryan's loss for eighteen years and I'm not going to tell him he's wrong.

When did he do that? Asking for a friend.
