"does he have a good rep?" seriously? i think he's universally acknowledged as one of the greats, not to mention the fact that a few of his books are read by millions of middle and high school every year.

on rotoscoping- i believe it was an appropriate choice because it gives the world a sense of unreality that must be akin to what things are like for a substance d addict. this could also be a clever way of describing the effects of substance d, as pkd never explains what they are in the book (other than the physical

no microdot factory, either.

this is far and away pkd's most well-written book, due equally to his being off drugs at the time and basing it mainly in reality.

onyewu is way overrated. rooney isn't, but england sure is.

i'm proud of the fact that i still don't know who kim kardashian is.

MMPSL, ninja

oh, i totally understand, because it's both the same way i've been feeling about the english for the last few weeks and the reason i've been pulling for the us team (and chile, north korea, and all the african teams). the thing is, since americans on the whole don't care much about soccer, you should wait until our

….and FUCK portugal, too.

you know, it was the guardian website talking so much shit about "landycakes" and USA! USA! USA! that turned me into a serious usa supporter/england naysayer. i want the us team to do well in order to raise the profile of the sport in this country and, hopefully, the level at which the mls and our national team play,

FA, i find myself consistently agreeing with you in comment threads, but seriously, a bad call is a bad call- i've looked at six or seven different sites, some even english, to see if someone had an explanation, and everybody says the same thing- "what the hell?"

un-fucking-wound
i was bummed over a girl and failed to see unwound on what turned out to be their last tour. there are others i missed of my own accord, but that's the one that hurts the most. also missed bedhead and nmh because they were playing three hours away on a weeknight when i was still in high school and my

i thought the game had turned into a square dance for a second- that shit was ridiculous.

too short, yes, but at least he had interesting/relevant things to say about music he clearly loves and listens to.

i read p&p&z, s&s&m, and abraham lincoln, vampire hunter, and enjoyed all three of them. are they great literature? no. are they entertaining? sure. would i pay for them? no. i work at a bookstore and got to read review copies.

did anyone else read that as LEV grossman?
i was scared we'd get the magicians ruined by some scientology bullshit.

corey, yes, the publisher paid a shit-ton for it, so they've put a shit-ton into marketing it. my boss met the editor recently and gave him my impression of the book- mainly that it was unoriginal and aimed at people unfamiliar with the sort of subjects the book deals with, not that i fucking hated it- and he agreed.

gleeth is right- i'm having a tough time coming up with single-serve fantasy stories. i think lev grossman's the magicians is fantastic, but it's in a contemporary setting and i don't know if that would be an issue for you. it just came out in paperback, though, so that might help.

i wanted to like this more than i did
warning, spoilers up-ins

tad william's otherland series.
