Dennis Lehane is a wonderful writer…
and I look forward to reading his book, while using my Schick Quatro razor!

Well done.
My Stray Observations
1. Jerell's hat would have made sense if he was playing the pan-flute. (Though he does win points for the Nancy Reagan snipe at Joe's outfit)
Reality Show logic…
Leanne is to Project Runway as Geoff is to Ace of Cakes
Stella
So my thinking is that unapologetically making fun of Rachel Zoe was at once Stella's most awesome moment, and also the last nail in the coffin for the producers. That's kinda conspiracy thinking, I know, but still…
Yawn
"Chutzpah" by the way, is going to be the title of my debut rap album.
Judging a book by its cover…
It looks awful.
Dystopia
You know what "1984" was lacking? Oatmeal rations.
Guest Judge
RuPaul looks like she's been Sharon Needles.
My Favorite Sad Song?
That's an easy one. It's " Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" by Tiny Tim. It is a song that transcends its shiny surface of mega-happiness toward something much more sinister. Danzig has nothing on Tiny Tim.
Seconded on the Kenzie & Gennaro books. I read them all back-to-back in a blur one summer and wish he would make more. Bubba is worth the price of the books alone.
I get what you're saying, and I've enjoyed quite a few books where character and writing style take precedent over the actual plot (and vice versa). I suppose I'll need to read this before I can have any kind of valid opinion of it.
Question
So is Pelecanos similar in style and theme to Dennis Lehane? Cause I love me some Lehane.
In other words…
"America is a well-crafted book. It's also tasteful, even-handed, and dependable."
You know…
I heard this guy on some book podcast, talking about this novel and it seemed like a pretty good book, but then he ended the interview with this Shakespeare Rap thing that was just excruciatingly bad and I immediately changed my mind.
Lame Parent-Type Question
Would this be ok for children (and if so, what age bracket)? I'm a little hesitant to explain the whole "sever his own umbilical cord" scenario to my kids, but it'll be worth it if I don't have to see "Space Chimps".
Hmmmm…
Scott Tobias reviews "Pineapple Express"
Craig Robinson
Can someone out in Hollywood please give this man a leading role? He knocks it out of the park every time he's on camera. His "Fluffy Fingers" bit was one of the funniest moments in "The Office" last season.
I'm seeing this movie now…
because of his unabashedly candid and honest commentary about the MTV Movie Awards (and MTV itself). It's nice to see that success isn't turning Seth Rogan into some pretentious toolbox.
My Nominations:
Bad to the Bone - George Thorougood
or
Taking Care of Business - Bachman Turner Overdrive
or
Unskinny Bop - Poison
