DO NOT start with Brothers. It's very dense. I suggest Notes from Underground or Crime and Punishment. BK was his last book, so he really gets long winded. It's good, just not a good starting point.

A) Ham on Rye would never work because it'd be impossible to convince a young, male actor to be portrayed with boils all over his face, being vulgar, and fucking old ladies. I'm not an actor (nor done so much as a school play), but I'll do it. Anyone with Hollywood power feel free to contact me.

Short Story Collections with a Theme
I prefer my short story collections themeless. Yes, you'll probably get some sort of idea that resonates because authors usually convey their beliefs and all that shit, but a theme always seems to make some stories that aren't as good as the rest get shoe horned into the collection.
