"The Third Man" being only 61 actually makes me feel young, somehow.

I was born in 1980, like some of you.

Let's cast the Catcher in the Rye movie. I nominate the kid from Jerry Maguire as Holden Caulfield.

About the only thing I like about "A Wrinkle in Time" is the cover art it inspires in all of its editions. Thanks to this book that I know how creepy-ass acid flashbacks have evolved from the early 1960s to the present day.

Some very perceptive remarks on "A Wrinkle in Time" in this thread. The parallel between "Wrinkle" and "Catcher in the Rye" never occurred to me but is very apt. I would guess that the over-hyping of both to young readers comes from the fact that both present very idealized portraits of youth that seem more accurate

I saw Spyro Gyra in concert once.

You have half of a good point here. Mamet's original quote does not explicitly refer to movies that have already been edited.

Wire Fapping would be a good name for a band.

stand by the JAMS.

It's "Cornel" West. In all the fuss about one woman's name, let's not forget how to spell all the others. (Unless it's deliberate, in which case, congratulations on striking another blow against the patriarchy. Keep at it, and maybe someday the total number of women benefiting from the work of bell hooks may

missed the main point of the game
it's thanks to Mario that today's generations know how empty and meaningless life is. the princess is always in another castle. sure, man, you played the game, but did you GET the game? think about it.

hrm
I have no comment on the book itself—- it sounds like the sort of thing I would probably find too irritating to finish. The sort of thing that people who do finish it do so out of loyalty to the idea of writing a book about a theory of art. Or out of a sense of obligation ("as a smart person who does not require

Fred!
I too like collecting records and exploring the cave of the unknown.

How about any scene where Mike Myers leers at the camera after making a joke in "The Love Guru"?

Never saw "Lolita" as I was following my rule.

Perfect description. It's less atrocious and less common with movies that aren't dramatic—- when the attempt is not as much to sell a young actor as a "serious actor", but to get the public used to thinking of a a TV actor as a movie actor, or just to get young and old to watch the same movie. But the results are

Great topic
With the exception of "Smile," Melanie Griffith has never been in a good movie. Everybody would do well to avoid her. (These days, very easy to do. But it's still a good rule.)

wow!
I love the sound of this! I gotta get it.

My advice is, don't start. Someone I trust suggested "White Noise" to me and I didn't like it. Someone else eventually talked me into "Underworld," which was significantly better than "White Noise," but I still didn't like it. And both books had a sameness to them, as far as what it was about them that I didn't

Whatever "The Most Dangerous Game" is based on.
