Having just finished Lansdale's Savage Season (which these episodes are based on) I am really finding it difficult figuring out why they changed and added some of the things for television. Lansdale's story was so close-to-perfect and concise with nothing really unnecessary involved. Maybe it was so they could stretch

Instead of building up to Richie's breakdown and dive back into drugs, the show mistakenly fast-forwarded to it by the 2nd episode. We did not have time to like Richie or think he's smart and good at his job.
