I think the biggest difference is that they had already shot the first episodes where we saw kids drinking and smoking and they slowly toned it down and it lost its edge.

It started with season 2, it got worse with season 3, they tried with season 4 but it had a completely different tone by then.

Whenever I try to defend The OC I remember that Oliver and "Che" happened and I just keep it to myself.

I think she donated it because she knew how shitty people would have acted towards her.
That's sad.
