Based on the personnel involved, Highwayman should have been the best record ever made. It's not, so I can't recommend it. Plus, the mid-eighties was not a great time for any of these fellas, or country music in general.

jim, you're right. The second disk of Southern Rock Opera IS damn near perfect, but the first is real spotty.

Start with The Dirty South. It's got a good balance between the three songwriters and some of their best tunes.
