Based on the personnel involved, Highwayman should have been the best record ever made. It's not, so I can't recommend it. Plus, the mid-eighties was not a great time for any of these fellas, or country music in general.

Wanted! The Outlaws
The Outlaws record is fantastic. Waylon steals the show, but everyone sounds good.
Mission of Burma wasn't 90's.
on first listen
I'm not digging this nearly as much as Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. Too many of these songs, especially in the first half of the record, are based around ugly Warren Ellis loops, and Cave seems to enjoy shouting the lyrics rather than singing them. The second half is much better, and the last…
The Duck You Sucker is great.
Don't piss of Arcade Fire or he'll steal your basketball.

Has anyone heard it yet? Thoughts?
jim, you're right. The second disk of Southern Rock Opera IS damn near perfect, but the first is real spotty.
Start with The Dirty South. It's got a good balance between the three songwriters and some of their best tunes.
Here's a (not so very) relevant comment courtest of Overheard in New York.
Guy hearing fireworks go off: Wow! Listen to the fireworks! Or maybe it's the Soviet Union bombing Manhattan!
I'm pretty sure his head detached from his body in a few Scrubs episodes. Zaniness ensued.
I do like the hat.
Yeah, it looks like the cover of Hello Blue Roses or whatever it was called. Mighty ugly; reminds me of the Spongmonkeys. I do like his hat, though.
Fuck. Now I'm definitely not on board.
Detroyer
So, we all agree that's the ugliest album cover ever, right? Rubies was fantastic, but I didn't go for Foam Hands, so I'll have to hunt down a few more tunes to decide if this is worth a pickup.
