It's ok because it's Arden, he has more knowledge about vivisecting human brains than most.  He even mentions it in the scene.

My guess is that Arden's evil scientist powers are why "Anne Frank" turned into a Stepford Wife, as ordinary lobotomies are usually not portrayed like that.
