I think
Stephen Colbert out of character could do it really well, but I don't really wanna see him break his always-in-character thing.
If it isn't NPH it'll be the wrong person.
Nothing could be more relevant to modern metal than Slayer. And it's not about being provocative or scary, it's about awesome riffs and the fun of loud music. There are people who get into metal because it pisses of their parents, but that's absolutely not the extent of its appeal.
"Public Display of Dismemberment"
That's kinda on-the-nose for Slayer. For a band that has said they don't like death metal, that's a pretty Cannibal Corpse song title.
Abigail and Them, man. Fuck Satan, all hail LaRocque.
Plus corpse paint, lest we forget.
Oops—no idea who "Marcyful" Fate is.
Venom did indeed predate Marcyful Fate, so they get firstie points, but Mercyful Fate is just so much more metal to me, you know? It's got that hard-rocking NWOBHM feel to it that's so much more fun than Venom's punky pre-thrash. And if you like what Venom does, Bathory basically does it, but tighter. IMHO
DOA is, of course, awesometacular—if it isn't the best live metal release then it's a damn close second to Live After Death—but does anyone else think its version of Raining Blood is weirdly lacking somehow? Either way, there's not really anything else bad to say about it.
You're not, I'm with you there. Though weirdly enough I thought God Hates Us All had its moments.
Agreed; too many people leave out South of Heaven. It's not their most consistent album, but its high points are some of the most creative stuff they ever did, and it's among the most creepily atmospheric releases of t he pre-Black metal era.
It's generally a good idea to avoid programming whose titles could be those of Dethklok tunes.
Roman centurions vs, the worms from Tremors.
Okay dude, I haven't seen Pathfinder, but even speaking as a nerd—enough of a nerd that I absolutely love the Star Wars prequels—Chronicles of Riddick was horrible.

I'm also a huge Seventh Son fan. IMHO, the essentials are albums 3, 4, 5 and 7—Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. After that come the first two albums (the Di'Anno era—Iron Maiden and Killers) then Somewhere in Time, followed by their three post-comeback albums (Brave New…
We as Maiden fans like to pretend Quest For Fire didn't happen.
I think he was just saying the solo was awesome and unusual.
I went back and forth a couple of times on whether I found that to be in bad taste, but ultimately I decided that quoting MST3K is always ok.
I'll second (or fifth or whatever) the love for 'Weeks.' I like both movies a lot, but think Weeks has a bit of an edge. I liked how they killed the narrative of the father/mother thing early; where you're expecting some kind of emotional resolution to the guilt the father must be feeling, instead he gets all dead and…
