Bambi Meets Godzilla!

Fantomas "4/18/01 - Monday"
Jamie Saft "Job Corps"
Guano Padano "Sleep Walk"
Mark Lanegan "Skeletal History"Jamie Saft "Fresser Dub"

Whoa, high praise!  Er, at least in my book.  People on the internet are weird about Blues Funeral.  Heller, I'm looking at you!

It's certainly an essential one.  I was going to nitpick at nuclearhobbit for leaving it off that list but then I realized I was just going to end up listing every album he's ever appeared on as "essential".   (Except Winding Sheet.  That one hasn't won me over yet.)

I'm glad to know that between you, me, and @avclub-8dd007f4a97be79c135c67999bf5b27e:disqus , there are actually multiple annoying content people who like Lanegan!  I was afraid I was an oddball for connecting with music that's lyrically a billion miles away from anything I can relate to.

I finally got a chance to sit down and listen to this all.  I'm in love with each and every one of these songs.  I went in with some trepidation because I'd seen some reviews that suggested it was "uneven".  Those reviewers are wrong, wrong, wrong!  I had really, really high expectations for this album and it's

One of us is home "sick" listening to this album over and over.  The other is stuck slaving over paperwork.  Which one do you think is the evil one?!

His discography is like what they say about Chicago weather — if you don't like it, wait an album.  That said, I love all of it.  Just when I think I like the stripped-down stuff best, I hear "Harborview Hospital" or "Tiny Grain of Truth" and think, "No wait, I love his 80's synth-inspired stuff best!"  Then I hear

I am flipping out!  But right now, it's because I'm stuck at working actually doing work that's not compatible with listening.  Gah!  I should just quit right now, right?  My boss would understand once I explained, right?

Can I be one of the fans who gets brought in to dance around the stage at field level while Zorn and Co. win over America by playing halftime-sized blocks of Moonchild and Hemophiliac tunes?

The first time I heard someone use "jabroni" was when my skeevy co-worker used it to describe (apparently coincidentally) a minority.  I assumed it was some horrible racist term that I'd never heard before.  In hindsight, I'm shocked that this co-worker used such a clever insult.

Will do!  Thanks for the links!   (Actually, Devin Townsend is on the list, but this will move to the top pronto!)

It is a high bar…  If push came to shove, I'd probably backtrack on "Planemo" and go with "Retrovertigo" instead.  Or "Caffeine".  Or "Il Cielo In Una Stanza"…  But "Planemo" is waaaay up there.

You're very welcome!  I finally had to start keeping a written list of all the music I need to check out.  There are little pieces of paper all over my desk at work that say things like "High On Fire!  Baroness!  Throbbing Gristle!!!"

"Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is what turned me into a Mark Lanegan fan, only not the album version.  It was the live version he did with the Twilight Singers, which included a mash-up with "Live With Me".  Holy shit, it's amazing:

I'm late to the party here — I'm on vacation and hosting a guest who wouldn't understand if I disappeared into the internet for hours on end just because it was Wednesday at noon — but I had to jump in when I saw Sleepytime Gorilla Museum 'n' friends mentioned in Shuffle Thread!

Congratulations!

Thanks!  If it's not drinky drunk, I'll demand a refund!

I loved K&C so much, and loved the movie of Wonderboys, but holy shit, the book was horrible!  I should have stopped reading it halfway through but part of me was so fascinated by the gulf between the quality of the book and the quality of the movie that I couldn't stop.   In related news, The Yiddish Policeman's Union

Happy birthday!
