@avclub-d542a3419c3ad57206a96bcc86155ebc:disqus I didn't think it was possible until I discovered one of my grad school friends thought it was "boring". Needless to say, she is no longer a friend of mine.

My first year at my job, the entertainment at the annual holiday party included the director of the company doing "Putting On The Ritz" with the company mascot. Not one person at my table had seen "Young Frankenstein". That situation has got to be one of the circles of Hell.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't like this movie.

@avclub-7f0b8fe142c259223fea550775ddc642:disqus I'm so glad to see Mark Lanegan getting at least tiny bit of love here in the end-of-the-year lists. "Blues Funeral" has got to be one of the most underrated albums of the year. I especially didn't under the reviewers who dissed on "Tiny Grain Of Truth" and "Harborview…

@avclub-153f08f81bce94a093b6f55f77fded4f:disqus There's no need to bother with stupid ol' Pitchfork when there's ALARM Magazine's "Best Albums Of The Week" feature!

I love AV Club but I don't even bother using it as a music discovery tool. I've found that ALARM's Album of the Week feature is consistently fabulous. The reviews are straightforward instead of fussy like Pitchfork, and the embedded tracks make it easy to sample stuff. They cover a pretty decent range of styles,…

"Me Gusta El Calor" by Carla Kihlstedt & Matthias Bossi. It's starts a little slow, but gets so catchy in the middle that it's impossible not to just start it back up again when it end.

I would be all over the Cave/Ellis modern-day-songs-in-older-styles project you're proposing, particularly if it's got Lanegan involved. Come on, 2013, make this happen!

This was the year I completely blew open my musical horizons, so it was a banner year for me for "favorite albums that I got into that wasn't released this year". Among the highlights are Guano Padano's first album, Mark Lanegan's "Bubblegum", and the entire Melvins back catalog.
