The format is a huge potential issue.  I'm not sure that the 1970s variety show format would work anymore (certainly some of the old episodes drag in parts, and I'm generally a fan).  I haven't seen any of Muppets Tonight, but the idea of redoing it as a talk show makes some sense, though that's inherently going to be
