Most peculiar, mama
Presumably the author borrowed his title from the lyrics to John Lennon's "Nobody Told Me", which was released in 1984. Does he make any connection of that phrase to the 1970s? And I mean a specific one, not like a general "The '70s were weird, man".

I share by birthday with Tony Fucking Iommi. Motherfucker got his FINGERS CHOPPED OFF, then just fashioned himself some homemade fake fingers and went on to birth an entire (awesome) genre of music.

Concrete Donkey, that may be the subtlest joke I've ever encountered on these here interwebs. Kudos.

Sometimes I read one of these comment threads and it feels like my afternoon tea was spiked with mescaline. Was that a quote from The Maltese Falcon up there? I need to put my head down.

Re my post above, I was never a high school. That was just a rumor.

Jorge—interesting that you pick E Street Shuffle as the Springsteen album that might best capture "that Jersey feeling". While I love the record, it's always evoked New York to me, especially the (exquisite) three-song suite that ends the album. "4th of July, Asbury Park" would be the obvious exception. I'd pick Born

I'm not sure how to parse Bobo's statement, but I hope it's not dissing the Donnas.

Her name
I always pronounce it as in French—"shuh-REE". Most people, it seems, just pronounce it like "sherry". Anybody got a definitive answer on how the lady herself says it?

Wind in the Door featured "a" cherubim, did it not? I remember that although it appeared to be a single creature, it pointedly referred to itself using the plural. I thought that was neat.

A miniseries version of Watership Down actually sounds like a pretty good idea. The existing movie is not bad at all, but a mini would be the only way to achieve the epic scope of the book.

It's one of my very favorite books, and I've avoided watching the movie all my life because I knew it was a less-than-faithful adaptation.

Stop-motion would better convey the warmth of the novel, but I feel like CGI, probably in 3D, is the more likely medium. To which I say boo.

I once got laughed at for saying "Mrs. Frisby" by some friends who had only seen the movie. I got to be all smug and point out that they, in fact, were the idiots.

Yeah, I generally find fight scenes boring, but this show occasionally has an enjoyable one, and the one with Chuck and the "gas company" guys was definitely one of them. I think it had something to do with Zachary Levi being really prominent in a lot of the shots, rather than a million cutaways to a stunt guy. It

I thought Katelynn (or whatever annoying spelling she uses) was the fashion loser last night. Take your hands out of your incredibly roomy pockets while the judges are talking to you, girl!

IRA terrorist? He was clearly dressed as Brian Johnson. Maybe he plays in an AC/DC tribute band?

It's my understanding that people have a negative view of Kristin Kreuk based on her role in Smallville, but I've never seen a single episode of that show, and I thought she was terrific in Chuck. Very charming and likable.

Sounded like an allusion to the Terminator theme to me as well, though I'm not sure how that would be meaningful. Are they trying to tell us that Casey is a cyborg?

Holy shit, I thought the same thing! I was actually wishing she'd sung "You Are the Light".

Smilner, it's spelled with a "d".
