@Croig:disqus :  Even societies mainly composed of merchants/traders sometimes need a military, to protect them from militaristic societies.  Examples:  Hannibal's Carthage, 17th Century Holland.

@avclub-4b7a2cf08c2e361d9f8c481c7eaac2e8:disqus :  OK, I will agree that B5 explained the relative gravity better.  (At least they had a scientific explanation, beyond Trek's "wizard did it.")  In general, though, I think DS9 was better overall.

@avclub-79557cb93066f4470b8cee6e9110f757:disqus : That was one of the best lines in the whole series. It really makes Quark a lot more than a stereotypical Ferengi.

I didn't like the station when I first started watching in 1993, but it gradually grew on me.  As did the dark, Byzantine tone of the show.

HAIL FRAKES!

Thank you, Sirtis.  It has been a great ride.

It's fashionable to bash "Middlebrow Pretension," but there are times when "middlebrow" is preferable to "lowbrow."

I love B5 too… even with all its weaknesses, it was still an awesome series.  So I should be a happy cat in 2012.

@avclub-beddc9f9e1c9b438dc4246e494644ce4:disqus :  When you consider the science is often based on something that supposedly hasn't been invented yet, a lot of times "wizard did it" is good enough.  I agree, someone being out of character or continuity being ignored is a much greater flaw, because that kind of thing

Sounds like some of the jocks I knew in high school.

I have to admit, some individual eps of Voyager were pretty good, such as "Scorpion" and "Year of Hell."  My only complaint is that it didn't go anywhere as a series with arcs or character development;  of course, Prole, your mileage may vary on both those issues.

Sounds like the wedding I had with Mrs. Cat.
Congratulations!

I have really appreciated Cookie Monster, too, and hope CM joins us for DS9.

@avclub-53e4db6f596904f154b5efa09193e3ab:disqus : I think I ate that sandwich at a vending machine at a Greyhound station a few years ago.

@avclub-79557cb93066f4470b8cee6e9110f757:disqus : vampires.

Spot/Lwaxana: 0/10

I've been following these since the TOS and Prisoner days as well, though I didn't register and post until TNG.  These TOS, TNG, and Prisoner reviews have all been excellent, and have sharpened my appreciation for all three series.  Looking forward to DS9.

That came out just right.

Thanks, Rick.  It's been enjoyable.
