Have you yourself seen the series? I think it's generally accepted that the DVD/Blu-ray episode order is the best (and the creators' intended chronology), followed by the movie.

A coworker once tried to get me into Farscape and I had much the same reaction: Five or six episodes in and it just seems to be about this douchey guy and his boring alien friends (OK, the blue lady seemed kind of neat). I kept on wishing it would be Firefly instead, which I realize isn't exactly fair.
