teadoust: I'm not excusing what Richards did, and I think you are correct that he was motivated by racism. I said as much in my post, so I don't see why you need to frame this as a disagreement.

Here's the thing about Richard's "N-word" rant: It seems me that he was trying, in a very confused manner, to "hack" a famous Lenny Bruce bit. It's a bit which features prominently in the "Lenny" biopic— Dustin Hoffman (as Lenny) starts off by asking "are there any n*ggers in the audience?" and winds up repeating…

Look, I understand Albini's disdain for musical "fads", but this particular song didn't follow a fad; it created one. Surely that deserves a few points for creative thinking? My personal take on the track is that it's a musical joke, and a pretty good one.

Yeah, but aren't consoles kind of passe these days? They're all at the end of their product cycles. It used to be that a gaming console would blow away any comparably-priced PC in terms of graphical power, but I don't think that's the case anymore… which leads me to think they'll pay more attention to the PC version…

They've got my $60, since I will always be intensely curious about the next GTA sequel… but with that said, I really felt that GTA IV was a drag to play. The main reason had to do with the gameplay mechanics, which simply felt sluggish. Driving felt painfully slow, and running/walking/shooting felt like you were…

Disclaimer: I haven't heard this particular recording yet. Maybe it's brilliant, I don't know.
I *did* hear most of a 12-minute-long routine of Tig Notaro's that they played on This American Life— it was a long, rambling and not particularly funny story about Taylor Dane. Quite frankly, it was one of the strangest…

My impression is that this reviewer has only a nodding familiarity with Cale's work, that he had nothing in particular to say about this record, and that he is grasping for phrases which will make him sound knowledgeable and clever. The comment about the lack of viola is a good example: "[Cale] underutilizes the one…
