People keep saying this but I can't see it, just a collagen line around the upper lip, maybe. It just seems that her face is just fuller from gaining weight and she's playing someone who's scared and trying to hide her feelings.

That makes sense. IRL it was probably pretty challenging for the actress to speak her native language with an American accent, speaking German with an American accent would add another level of complexity that just wouldn't have been worth it.
