I was thinking that during the whole episode. First that he would kill her before he would let her talk to a shrink. Then, when it turned out that she wasn't crazy I was worried about her challenging his ego. It turns out it's a case of mutually assured destruction, she's in it too and has just as much to lose, so she

There's no way she'd commit suicide and leave them at the mercy someone so

I do not know what that means. Do you mean this?

When she said that she didn't have a good plan and that all she could do was wait, it was devastating. I never thought I could feel such sympathy for someone who was saying "I hope you get cancer".

I didn't notice the poster, good eye. Also, the cup Skyler was using as an ashtray at the end had a 51 on it. Maybe it was a birthday present?

I agree. When they introduced them I thought, "Is that his daughter?" I didn't buy them as a couple at first but they've really developed the characters and their relationship over the seasons.

Skyler's back. When they had the ominous shot of the pool earlier in the episode, I wondered if she would end it all, but it didn't seem likely that she would abandon her children, and it was interesting how she snapped out of her funk the instant she knew the kids were out of the house.  I really liked that scene,

Hasn't Lydia been in the business all along? We just haven't seen her.

Exactly. Did you ever read Pauline Kael's essay on the Auteurs. If I'm recalling correctly, she basically said that they piled all this academic analysis on to justify their interest in movies they loved in their youth instead of just embracing the fact that any movie can have value even if it's not high art.

I think critics like Hitchcock and take him seriously because he started in silent films, a very different medium, and he continued to use the same stylized visual language even after the advent of talkies. He made silent movies for his entire career, when people are no longer familiar with the conventions of an
