    It is a little jarring, though, that Melanie comes off as quick-witted and smart when she's sparring with her brother but is often thick and dumb with her friends.

    Aren't the judges' decisions based in part on the current week's performance?  If that's so, they may have been so impressed by Lindsay's work this week—Nigel specifically mentioned her growth—that they just saved her without a final dance.  As for Eliana, I bet they made her dance so that viewers could see how
