Let's face it, if you set out to do Charlie & The Chocolate Factory right, you're going to screw up Willy Wonka. I'm sure Roald Dahl would have hated both equally, though.

It was recently overhauled, and several characters were altered greatly. Queen Frostine was demoted to Princess; Lolly lost all traces of royalty; and Plumpy the little gingerbread plum thingie was removed entirely, probably because kids have no idea what gingerbread plums are, and replaced by Mama Gingertree.
